As I mentioned in the last Project 365 update, one of my old friends from sixth form, Albertine, came down to Brighton with her boyfriend for a little weekend getaway. I'd been racking my brains for somewhere we could go for brunch on the Sunday, so when I saw 42 Juice had teamed up with Six in Hove to offer hot drinks and nourishing breakfasts, I very excitedly tagged Albertine and asked if she wanted to go. As a fellow lover of breakfast and all things healthy she of course agreed, and on Sunday morning we wandered over with hungry bellies and breakfast on our minds.
Six is a both a restaurant and a bar, with lots of seating and gorgeous interiors; I'm talking floor to ceiling windows, marble tables, a mix of exposed brick and beautifully wallpapered walls, and ivy flowing from every banister. All of the food on the menu is locally sourced, organic and seasonal, and much of the food 42 Juice offer is raw, too, so there are plenty of lovely options (both raw and non-raw!). 42 Juice also have their own little area within Six, with freshly made smoothies at the counter, a fridge full of bottled juices and nut mylks, superfoods like chia and hemp seeds and a selection of tasty raw snacks and chocolate.
It was a little bit of a walk to get there, so by the time we arrived we were suitably chilly enough to want to warm up with some coffee and warm food. I opted for 42's warm buckwheat porridge, something I often make at home but always cold as I use frozen bananas to give it a creamy texture, topped with mixed nuts, sliced banana and lashings of maple syrup. I also ordered a soy latte on the side. Albertine went for the vegetarian breakfast and a matcha latte, and I have to admit I was slightly jealous of her generous portion of mashed avocado. Albertine's boyfriend, who was also with us, ordered the regular English breakfast and a flat white.
My porridge was absolutely delicious and kept me full well into the afternoon, and Albertine and her boyfriend both spoke highly of their meals, too. The coffee was also delicious, which is always a sign of a great venue in my book! I'm actually already planning another visit soon with N, so if you're ever in or around Brighton and Hove I would suggest making a visit yourself if you fancy stopping for delicious and oh-so-good-for-you food in a gorgeous, but still casual, setting.
Although, if you do have any recommendations yourself, please do let me know! I'm always on the hunt for new brunch and coffee stops.
